In this retreat weekend – Four Foundations of Mindfulness – you will dive deep into the the original Four Foundations of Mindfulness as described by the Budda. These foundations encompass much more than the widespread western version of mindfulness communicates. In the original buddhist teaching Mindfulness of Breath Feeling, Mind and Phenomena form the necessary foundation for practicing the Four Genuine Restraints which invite us to drop whatever is not good for us and take up whatever is benficial. Mindfulness of what is really going on in experience is necessary before choosing wisely. Makes sense, right?
“Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.” Buddha
Four Foundations of Mindfulness
In this weekend retreat you will be invited to investigate these four foundations in your own experience. There will be meditation and self-observation exercises alternated with Kum Nye Tibetan movement exercises that promote relaxation and clarity. Group sharings will clarify your own and others’ experience.
The retreat is part of the nine month program Dharma as a Guide taught in weekly (Dutch-spoken) classes at NCN Amsterdam. (link) The retreat is also open to others who are curious about the architecture of their own inner experience. All are welcome, no prior meditation experience required.
